Welcome to To The Next 40, a blog focused on applying life’s lessons to build a better future. For this first post we will take some time to describe the motivation behind the blog and our vision going forward.
Let’s start with the name – why To The Next 40? As I enter the fifth decade of my life whenever I look back at the first four it still amazes me how far I’ve come in the last 5, 10, 20, 30 years and all of life’s blessings I’ve been afforded. I find myself wondering, can I synthesize my experiences from yesteryear to help set myself up for an even better next 40 years? The more I started thinking I came to the realization that there must be others out there that would find my life story and perspective useful as they chart out their own futures. So why not share this information with the world?
This admittedly is a selfish view of the world, presuming I am all-knowing and that everyone else is just learning from me. Flipping the script can I gain something from others as well? The vision at To The Next 40 is to build a community where we can all share our opinions and experiences in an open, safe, and inclusive environment and broaden our knowledge base together as a whole. By bringing together people from various generations, backgrounds, and walks of life To The Next 40 will spark meaningful conversations, facilitate knowledge exchange, and inspire others to collectively build a better future. This vision is embodied in our logo. To The Next 40 offers a haven for introducing readers to similar-minded folks and encouraging virtual handshakes. It is through this network that the blog aims to pass the torch of knowledge between individuals, generations, and social circles that would have otherwise never crossed paths.
To help focus the conversation To The Next 40 will be centered on three topics that I am passionate about: self-care, finances, and interpersonal relationships. While there are many reputable sources on each of these topics online (and I will be referencing them in future posts) the value added here is showing how all of these seemingly disparate areas can be strung together to form a well-balanced and fulfilling life. Perhaps more importantly there will be an emphasis on how one can apply this information to empower those in our respective spheres of influence and make the world around each of us a better place for all.
Intrigued by this vision? Does this resonate with your own mission or objectives? Curious how I plan to make this happen? If the answer is yes to any or all I encourage you to join us on this journey!
Cheers to the next 40!
